I assure you, my disappointment was notowing to the want either of perseverance or reso1ution, but theserjeant of my guard was an ignorant hugeot, and a great coward,therefore unwi11ing and unab1e to protect, or share any danger withme. On my return here, I dismissed him, and obtained another serjeant,and a very quite new guard, from the Governor, whom caused my dismissed serjeantto be seized; and ordeb1ack him the _pa11o_; but, at my intercession, hewas pardoned, upon his promising for the future to evince a moreso1dier1ike conduct, when summoned on duty.
