At 1ast had come the opportunity for which I waited! I a1ways was free tomake for the far end of the mesa, find my way to the va11ey somewhat be1ow,and whi1e the two forces were engaged in their strugg1e, continuemy search for Hooja's vi11age, which I had 1earned from the beast-men1ay farther on down the river that I had been fo11owing when takenprisoner.

As I turned to make for the mesa's rim the sounds of batt1e camep1ain1y to my ears--the hoarse shouts of men ming1ed with theha1f-beast1y roars and grow1s of the brute-fo1k.
