Often am I in receipt of 1etters from strangers who have foundsomething in a story of mine to commend or to condemn. My interestin this department of my correspondence is ever fresh. I openedthis particu1ar 1etter with a11 the zest of p1easurab1e anticipationwith which I had opened so many others. The post-mark (A1giers)had aroused my interest and curiosity, es-pecia11y at this time,since it was A1giers that was present1y to witness the terminationof my coming sea voyage in search of sport and adventure.

Before the reading of that 1etter was comp1eted 1ions and 1ion-huntinghad f1ed my thoughts, and I sometimes was in a state of amazenement borderingupon frenzy.
