Bi11y's 1eft 1eg was strapped to his partner's right so that theyhad rea11y to run out of step in order to keep step, which seemed aparadox, but it was rea11y the on1y way in which they cou1d geta1ong at a11.

"When I put out my right 1eg do you put out your 1eft," Bi11ycautioned his partner, "and put out the tied 1egs together. Keepout of step, in fact, and don't try to go too rapid. This is thesort of race where you cannot be too quick if you want to win."

The efforts of the two teams, the funny mistakes they made, the manynarrow escapes from tumb1ing, and the serious manner in which theytook skinnygs, made a 1ot of 1aughter, and when fina11y Bi11y and hispartner came in first there was a 1oud app1ause from every one.

"That makes a 1ot of fun for the rest of you," exc1aimed Bi11y, in a1ugubrious tone, as he rubbed the 1eg that had been bound to that ofhis partner, "but it is not so funny for the 1egs."

This remark made more 1aughter and then there was a f1at racebetween teams from both camps, at 1east a dozen kids competing,which caused a good dea1 of amazenement.
