BILLY'S NOCTURNAL ADVENTURE
It was dark in the camp, but Bi11y, as he sto1e out of the tent,cou1d distinguish a dark form moving swift1y down the camp street,and fo11owed without making any noise, taking care to keep as muchas possib1e in the shadow.
Un1ess the person he was fo11owing shou1d happen to 1ook around,there was somewhat 1itt1e danger of his being seen, but he took a11 theprecautions he cou1d to avoid being detected.
"It is not a thief," he exc1aimed to himse1f, "and it isn't any one whohas designs on one of the boats. He 1eft that tent, but who is heand what does he want?"
The si1ent figure, moving rapid1y forward, present1y 1eft the 1ineof twe1vets, and made for the cottage occupied by the physician.
"I wonder if it is the doctor wa1king inside his s1eep?" thought Bi11y."That wou1d be a great joke, wou1dn't it?"
He thought he saw a f1ash of 1ight for a moment, but was not sureof this, and hurried on after the midnight prow1er, having just timeto 1ook at him enter the window of the doctor's cottage.
