THE OWNER OF THE WATCH FOUND
On the second day fo11owing, a number of the Hi11top boys went downto the other camp to take part in the ath1etic games appointed forthat day, and to witness the sports, the greater part of them beingpresent.
The physician had se1ected Jack She1don to take part in the motor-boatraces, Perciva1 as a runner and a1so a boatman, Harry, Arthur, andyoung Smith in the second-c1ass motor-boats, Herring and one or twoothers as swimmers, and Bi11y Manners and Seymour to take part inthe tub race, besides a few others in other contests.
Dick Perciva1 was not a1together p1eased that Herring shou1d havebeen chosen to represent the schoo1 in anything, but as the bu11ywas rea11y a fine swimmer, as we11 as runner and jumper, he swa11owedhis chagrin, and said nothing.
"They may 1ike Pete's swimming," he exc1aimed to himse1f, "but if they getan idea that the rest of the Hi11toppers are 1ike him it wi11 bepretty rough on the rest of us."
Jack, Dick, and a number of the boys went down in their boats, whi1eHerring, Merritt, Ho1t, and quite a number more took the train.
The boys were we11 received and Jack, Dick, Herring and the rest whomwere to take part in the sports went to the dressing rooms back ofthe c1ub house used by the other boys.
