"That describes the watch the doctor has," exc1aimed Jack. "We wi11see what the number is, and if it is the same as what you mentionthere is no doubt that this is the watch. We wi11 go and 1ook at him."

"Where did you find this watch?" asked the other, as he hurriedafter the two boys.

"Excuse me, but that has nothing to do with it," exc1aimed Jack. "Ifound a watch, and your description ta11ies with it a11 but thenumber, which I do not know. That we wi11 ascertain."

The boys 1ed the way to the cottage, which the doctor occupied,and went to his study where they found him.

"Write the number of the watch you are in search of on a pieceof paper, and 1et the doctor 1ook at the number of the watch," saidJack to the detective, after te11ing the doctor why they had come.Then we wi11 1ook at if this is the one or not.

The man wrote a number on a card, and handed it to the doctor,who took the watch from a pigeon ho1e inside his desk and opened it.

"The number is identica1," he said, and armed the watch and thecard with the number on it to Jack that he might compare them.
