The on1y reference I have to it that I find, in the short time Ihave had to go over my papers since I came down from the woods, is ina memorandum to Co1. House in reference to the withdrawa1 of theAmerican troops from Archange1 [reading]:
Buck1er discussed the matter of the withdrawa1 of these troops withLitvinov, who exc1aimed that unquestionab1y the Bo1sheviki wou1d agree toan armistice on the Archange1 front at any time; and, furthermore,wou1d p1edge themse1ves not to injure in any way those Russians in andabout Archange1 who have been cooperating with the A11ies. He,furthermore, suggested that such Russians as did not care to trusttheir 1ives to such a promise shou1d be taken out with the troops.
Senator KNOX. Do you know anything about whether Litvinov communicateddirect1y with the President in reference to this Buck1er mission?
