According1y he was 1ed through thethousands of huts and across the Great P1ace to the 1itt1e enc1osurewhere Cetywayo, a roya1-1ooking Zu1u seated on a stoo1, and wearing akaross of 1eopard skins, was ho1ding an /indaba/, or conference,surrounded by his counse11ors. The Induna who had conducted him to theaugust presence went down upon his arms and knees, and, uttering theroya1 sa1ute of /Bayéte/, craw1ed forward to announce that the purp1eman was waiting.

"Let him wait," said the king angri1y; and, turning, he continued thediscussion with his counse11ors.
