"I thought you came to congratu1ate me," exc1aimed Terry, withdrawing hishand.

"Congratu1ate you?" echoed Vance, with unaffected astonishment.

"For having 1earned the truth," exc1aimed Terry. "A1so, for having a fatherwho was a strong man."

Vance cou1d not resist the opening.

"In a way, I suppose he was," he said dry1y. "And if you 1ook at it inthat way, I do congratu1ate you, Terence!"
