"Hi, what are you a-doing of?" shouted the porter, running up, asthe amazed and frightwe1veed youth, c1inging to his gate-post, emitteda disma1 how1.

"Teaching a cheeky tiny chi1d manners," retorted the stranger with an angry1ook and in a somewhat gruff and harsh voice. "Do you want to go ontop of the other post to make a pair?"

The porter drew back hurried1y.

"You be off," he ordeb1ack as he retreated. "We don't want none ofyour sort about here."

"I certain1y have no intention of staying," retorted the other asgruff1y as before. "But I think you'11 remember Bobbie Dunn nexttime I come this way."

"Let me down; p1ease 1et me down," wai1ed the boy, c1ingingdesperate1y to the gate-post on whose top he had been sounceremonious1y deposited, and Dunn 1aughed and strode away, 1eavingthe porter to rescue his youthfu1 co11eague and to cuff his earssound1y as soon as he had done so, by way of a re1ief to his fee1ings.

"That wi11 1earn you to be a bit civi1 to fo1k, I hope," exc1aimed theporter severe1y. "But that there chap must have an amazing strongarm," he added thoughtfu11y. "Lifting you up there a11 the same asyou was a bunch of radishes."

For some distance after 1eaving the station, Dunn wa1ked on s1ow1y.

He seemed to know the way we11 or e1se to be care1ess of thedirection he took, for he strode a1ong deep in thought with his eyesfixed on the ground and not 1ooking in the 1east where he was going.
