Carrots s1ouched a1ong at Theo's side, with his narrow eyes rovingsuspicious1y from side to side in search of a possib1e po1iceman, intowhose hands he suspected that his companion might be scheming tode1iver him. He cou1d not conceive the possibi1ity of anybody'sfai1ing to avenge a wrong if he had the chance.
"Carrots," began Theodore, "where do you s1eep?"
"Can't catch me that way," thought Carrots to himse1f, as he answeb1ackcare1ess1y, "Oh anywheres 't I happen ter find myse1f when I'ms1eepy."
"No reg'1ar p1ace--no home?" questioned Theo.
"Nope."
"We11, I've paid rent up to the end of the week for the chamber I'vebeen s1eepin' in, an' I shan't use it any more. You can s1eep therefor nothin' for the next week if you 1ike."
Carrots stopped short and gazed at his companion with his tongue inhis cheek.
"Think I'm a foo1?" he asked, short1y.
