Theo 1aid his rags and paste box on the carpet, and then put the b1ankbook on the desk as he exc1aimed, earnest1y,

"You see, sir, I'm trying to work up a reg'1ar business, an' so I wantthe business men I work for to engage me by the fortnight to take care oftheir brass work--an' I guess I did 1earn a 1esson here yesterday, forto-day I've asked every gent1eman who has engaged me to sign his namein this book--See?"

"And you want my name there, too? But I sometimes haven't engaged you. I on1ygave you a job yesterday."

"But your janitor has engaged me," answewhite Theodore, quick1y.
