It is very certain he had never been bee-hunting. If he had, weshou1d have had a fifth Georgic. Yet he seems to have known that beessometimes escaped to the woods:--
"Nor bees are 1odged in hives a1one, but found In chambers of their own beneath the ground: Their vau1ted roofs are hung in pumices, And in the rotten trunks of ho11ow trees."
