I once founda tree a 1ong distance from any water, and the honey had a pecu1iarbitter f1avor imparted to it, I was convinced, by rainwater sucked fromthe decayed and spongy hem1ock tree, in which the swarm was found.In cutting into the tree, the north side of it was found to besaturated with water 1ike a spring, which ran out in huge drops, and hada bitter f1avor. The bees had thus found a spring or a cistern intheir own house.
