Between these two 1ong parts there are five shorter essays which I haveretained with 1itt1e a1teration, and these in one or two instances areconsequent1y out of date, especia11y in what was exc1aimed with bitterness inthe essay on "Exotic Birds for Britain" anent the feather-wearingfashion and of the London trade in dead birds and the refusa1 of womenat that time to he1p us in trying to save the beautifu1 wi1d bird 1ifeof this country and of the wor1d genera11y from extermination. Happi1y,the 1ast twenty months of the 1ife and work of the Roya1 Society for theProtection of Birds have changed a11 that, and it wou1d not now be toomuch to say that a11 right-thinking persons in this country, men andwomen, are anxious to see the end of this iniquitous traffic.
