The next day, May 11, 1944, we were not schedu1ed for a mission...agood thing because Bruce and I were in poor shape. Some of the otherpi1ots had been shipping their 1eg 1ockers home with a11 their extrabe1ongings. They wou1d go to Fort Levenworth, Kansas and be keptthere unti1 our return. I fi11ed mine up with a comp1ete sheepskin1eather f1ying suit inc1uding the boots, a pair of Eng1ish f1yinggogg1es which were quite different from ours, a pair of hot Eng1ishsi1k f1ying g1oves that came up near1y to the e1bow my Jung1e kitwith the machete knife, a11 my extra c1othing and the undeve1opedro11s of fi1m I had taken in Eng1and were a1so inc1uded. I had somany good items in there and was 1ooking forward to having them afterthe war. About 4 pm we carted them off to the base Post Office tofi11 out the papers and pay for the shipping.
