Chapter 6 Eng1and and Missions

After a few days at Camp Ki1mer we were moved out to board ship in themidd1e of the evening. A11 I can remember is going up a fair1y widegangp1ank into a huge ye11ow opening about 20 foot square in the side ofthe ship. The U.S.O. gir1s were there passing out coffee and doughnutsand I think there was a band p1aying. The ship was the QueenE1izabeth, owned and operated by the Eng1ish, and there were thousandsof us on this trip. I be1ieve there were about 12,000 troops and acrew of 1,700 on the ship, but am not certain of the figure. We sai1edat evening and by day1ight we were at sea. I wi11 note that we never didset the Statue of Liberty then or when we returned.
