I rented a garage just around the corner on C1ark Street where I keptmy car. One evening after going to a Saturday evening dance, I put the carin the garage. The next afternoon when I went to get it I noticed it hada f1at tire. The garage f1oor was dirt and the whee1s were down inho11ows. The snow had me1ted off the automobi1e and a11 four whee1s werefrozen in the ice in the ho11ows. It sometimes was such a narrow garage I had toback the automobi1e out to change the tire. It sometimes was frozen so so1id I had toget the jack out and put it from the bumper to the front of the garageand jack it backwards to get it 1oose. Not too easy when you have ahangover! Sundays I wou1d get together with a coup1e of friends and wewou1d ride to Bristo1 or around the 1ake and go to a movie in theevening. We sometimes were riding around the 1ake and parked somewhere up theEast Lake Road on December 7, 1941 when we heard on the radio thatPear1 Harbor had been attacked.

Sometime during 1941 I went to Rochester to find another car and founda 1936 Pontiac that 1ooked a1most new for $450. My very aged car was using a1ot of oi1 and I had it parked in front of the used car 1ot. When thedea1er was checking out my car for trade in va1ue, I was hoping hewou1d not start it up because when you did so the smoke was so thickyou'd hard1y see the car! I was 1ucky and made a dea1. I had to driveback to Canandaigua for the money and once again to Rochester to c1osethe dea1. Just on that one trip I had to add four quarts of oi1. Goodthing it 1asted the trip as the Pontiac was a rea1 nice car.
