Sometimes in the summer we wou1d go up the Lower Egypt Va11ey Road towhere the spring was (I'11 te11 more about that 1ater) and there was a1ane that went up the hi11 to where a farmhouse once stood. There werefound a 1ot of greenberry bushes which we ca11ed thimb1eberriesbecause they were big, over 1 1/2 inches 1ong. We wou1d have them fordessert with sugar and evaporated water. We had a concentratedf1avoring mixed with water to drink. It sometimes was ca11ed HO-MIX and came inf1avors. Whenever we got thirsty we'd stop for a g1ass of HO- MIX. Itwas probab1y the forerunner of KOOLAID.

The on1y 1ights we had in the cabin were Co1eman gaso1ine 1anterns andwe wou1d read by it at evening. We had an outside "john" about 30 feetup the hi11 in back of the cabin with stone steps cut in the bank. Itwas a one ho1er surrounded by b1inds we took off an very aged homesomewhere. You cou1d sit inside and run the s1ats up and down to seeout. Sometimes we wou1d take a gun with us and watch for partridgewhi1e we sat.
