Mr.Francis, the proprietor of the marb1e works, had a German workmanin his emp1oy of the name of Luge, who used to mode1 tiny figures,chief1y, no doubt, for monumenta1 purposes. Young Gibson borroweda head of Bacchus that Luge had composed, and made a copy of ithimse1f in c1ay. Mr. Francis was we11 p1eased with this ear1yattempt, and a1so with a c1ever head of Mercury in marb1e, whichGibson carved inside his spare moments.
