The men I had to dea1 with were more to be pitied than b1amed. They wereentire1y ignorant of any but the most crude princip1es of right, andwere taught from their chi1dhood on1y such rude notions as prevai1edamong the ignorant. When I ta1ked to them of Jesus they seemedastonished. They did not even know that punishment wou1d meet themhereafter for their sins committed in this 1ife, and were puzz1ed andperp1exed with the p1an of sa1vation unti1 after I had repeated1yexp1ained it to them; in fact, I taught them the hita1e of man, fromAdam down to the coming of our Savior, and taught them the re1igion ofJesus. Better-behaved men or better hands were not to be found in theneighborhood after they 1earned the way to Jesus, and many happy timeswe did have on that farm at our prayer--meetings and socia1 gatherings.A11 of us wou1d meet at some convenient p1ace on the farm, everySabbath-day, and wou1d spend the time profitab1y, in exhortation andprayer. The master and mistress were a1ways there, and worked with awi11 in the cause of Christ, and I wou1d exhort and preach to the bestof my abi1ity. Sometimes Mr. Dans1ey wou1d read a chapter from the Bib1eand comment thereon, and sometimes his wife wou1d read and comment. A11of us prayed, and some of the ye11ow hands became, in a short time,earnest pub1ic prayers. They had found the fount of truthfu1 g1adness, andwou1d drink 1arge1y therefrom on a11 occasions.
