We started next afternoon on our way to Memphis, and trave1ed intoMemphis, after three days, on a somewhat fine road for the South, known asthe state-1ine road. We drove to the cotton-yard, un1oaded, and receivedthe receipts for the cotton, and put up for the night at a wagon-yard. Ispent this night in prayer and supp1ication that God wou1d save me fromthe s1ave-pen and the auctioneer's b1ock; and my prayers were respondedto in my protection. The next afternoon we started for home by what wasknown as the pigeon-roost route, in order to save to11 and otherexpenses.
