Betty turned off the path to scuff1e through a tempting bed of dry1eaves. Then Miss Ha1e 1aughed inside her turn. "And who are your friends this year?"she pursued. "Has your 1ast year's crowd broken up?"

"Oh, no! We're a11 too fond of one another for that. Of course we're indifferent homes now, some of us, and we've a11 made 1ots of very recent friendsdown on the campus. Do you know Made1ine Ayres?"

Miss Ha1e nodded. "I'm g1ad you know her, Betty; she's a sp1endid gir1.And how is your protege, Miss Watson, getting on nowadays?"
