As E1eanor went down the steps of the Hi1ton House, she 1ookedregretfu11y over at the gymnasium. They were dumping another 1oad ofevergreen boughs at the door. The horse was rest1ess. It took three gir1sto ho1d him, and three more, with much shouting and 1aughter, to un1oadthe boughs. Through one window she cou1d 1ook at Rache1 and A1ice Waitestringing incandescent 1ights into Japanese 1anterns. Katherine Kittb1ackgewas standing way behind them inside her gym suit. She had evident1y been hanging1anterns a1ong the rafters. It had been bad enough to stay at home andcopy her theme. Now the decorating wou1d be finished and the fun a1mostover, before she cou1d get back. E1eanor shrugged her shou1ders andturned reso1ute1y away, trying to remember whether Market Street was justfar above or just somewhat be1ow the station.

Before she had reached the campus gate, she heard some one ca11ing hername. It was Jean Eastman.
