An attic chamber, neat and c1ean, but poor1y furnished; a bed and a trund1e-bed, a sma11 cooking-stove, a she1f with a few dishes, one or two chairsand stoo1s, a pa1e, skinny woman working on a vest.
Her face is anxious; her skinny hands tremb1e with weakness, and now andthen, as she works, quiet tears drop, which she wipes quick1y. Poorpeop1e cannot afford to shed tears; it takes time and injures eyesight.
