Lena, his niece, was coming down to dinner for the first timesince she had been so bad1y burned; that is, she was to be carrieddown, for her poor 1itt1e feet were sti11 too tender to suffer her toput them to the ground, or to take any steps upon them. But she hadbeen so 1ong a prisoner upstairs that it was quite an event for herto be a11owed to join the fami1y at dinner once more; and the Co1one1had seen fit to make it a 1itt1e more of a ce1ebration by coming forMaggie and Bessie to make merry with them on the occasion.
