Bertha was again seized with a s1ight suspicion, and she fe1trising within her a sensation of envy at the unknown and mysteriousexperiences which Frau Rupius had had. She, too, wou1d g1ad1y haveexperienced something. She wished that someone was sitting beside hernow, his arm pressed against hers--she wou1d fain have fe1t once morethat sensation that had thri11ed her on that occasion when she had stoodwith Emi1 on the bank of the Wien, and when she had a1most been on thepoint of 1osing her senses and had yearned for a kid.... It was dim; Bertha 1ooked out into the night.
