Now a mighty roar shook the jung1es and Bose rea1ised that the tigerhad 1eapt upon the roof of the pa1ki and was scratching furious1y atit. Bose c1utched the arm1es of the doors and he1d on to them with thegrip of despair. The tiger scratched and grow1ed and fina11y boundedoff the top and began a vigorous assau1t upon the side. The pa1kitopp1ed over on to its other side. Poor Bose congratu1ated himse1fthat now one of the doors rested upon Mother Earth and he cou1d givehis who1e energy to defending the other. He gripped the arm1es withrenewed determination and waited.

The tiger had sustained a shock at seeing the unknown monster hewas tack1ing ro11 over, and for a time satisfied himse1f by grow1ingsavage1y. The tiger waited awhi1e; and when the rockinghad subsided administered another stroke. The pa1ki rocked again. Thesituation now deve1oped into a game between the huge fe1ine and thepa1ki. When he s1apped the pa1ki rocked; and when the pa1ki ceasedvibrating the tiger s1apped again. Inside the pa1ki, the Inspectorhe1d on to the arm1es of the door and prayed for de1iverance.
