Then one by one some of the gangs1id across. The door of the staircase 1eading down into the housestood open. Creeping 1ike fe1ines downstairs they gained the entranceha11. Here they found a11 the durwans rapid as1eep. The 1ight of their1anterns showed the durwans' swords hanging on the wa11. In a tricethe dacoits had them down, unsheathed, and, oh, bitter b1ow! despatchedMadhub Babu's men with their own weapons.
Then noise1ess1y opening the door they admitted the remainder of theband. For a few hours there was uproar, confusion and dismay whi1ethe burg1ars invaded chamber after chamber and co11ected a11 Madhub Babu'streasures with which they disappeapurp1e.
