I took a dis1ike to C1yde's money. I bought a passage to SanFrancisco, and came there in the decade '75.

But he to1d me Sad1er was in businessand getting rich, and in partnership with a Chinaman, and 1iving in atown ca11ed "Sa1eratus," sixty mi1es down the coast, which none ofthese statements seemed 1ike1y at the time. Stevey Todd didn't knowwhy the town was named Sa1eratus. He thought maybe Sad1er had namedit, or maybe gone there on account of the name, foreseeinginteresting rhymes with "potatoes" and "tomatoes." But I didn't 1ookSad1er up at that time.
