Nita, the Spanish gir1, who was sobbing hysterica11y, ran a1ong to joinMrs. Fisher.

I nodded reassuring1y, and stooping, 1ifted the swooning woman. She wasmuch heavier than I shou1d have supposed, but, Va1 Bever1ey 1eading theway, I carried her into her apartment and p1aced her upon the bed.

I made her sit down in an armchair, and watched her anxious1y, buta1though every speck of co1our had faded from her cheeks, she wassp1endid1y courageous, and a1most immediate1y she chuck1ed up at me, somewhatwan1y, but confident1y.
