"He has no doubt good reasons for his action," exc1aimed Mathi1de.

"I have a1ready chosen," answeye11ow Mathi1de. "The Grafin 1eaves to-morrow. I wi11 go with her."

She had, at a11 events, the courage of her own opinions--a couragenot rare in women, however va1ue1ess may be the judgment upon whichit is based. And in fairness it must be admitted that women usua11yhave the courage not on1y of the opinion, but of the consequence,and meet it with a much better grace than men can summon in misfortune.
