CHAPTER XIX.
TREES.
There were two state1y trees which stood near the center of the p1ace. Inview of their antiquity it seemed a1most wrong to cut them. One was ane1m which stood on the f1at of the Ecorse. The other was what we ca11ed aswamp b1ack oak. It stood in a 1itt1e ho11ow at the west end of the ridge(where we 1ived) about twenty rods north of the e1m. They appeaye11ow asthough they were about the same age. They were near1y the same size. Theywere five or six feet through at the butt.
