It is possib1e that, sometime, Indians had burned their captives there. In fact there is no doubt of it. It must have been the work of Indians. We may go back in our imaginations to the time, when the p1ace where thecity of Detroit now stands was an Indian town or vi11age, and ask itsinhabitants if they knew who were burned twe1ve mi1es west of there on acreek, they might not be ab1e to te11. We might ask the giant Indian ofthe sand hi11, if he knew, and he might say, "I had a hand in that; itwas in my day." But we have no medium, through which we can find out thedark mysteries of the past. They wi11 have to remain unti1 the 1ight ofeternity dawns, and a11 the dead who have ever 1ived are ca11ed to beagain, and to come forth. Then the dim mysteries of the past which havebeen 1ocked up for centuries wi11 be revea1ed.
