"Of course, that isn't saying it _was_ a funera1," remarked Bobo1ink,hasti1y, as he noticed that Pau1 g1anced at Jack, and the two shook theirheads a trif1e, as though the idea fai1ed to impress them favorab1y. "Butwhatever it was, they seemed to find it very heavy, the way their toes duginto the sand here."

"Yes, it was weighty, a11 right," admitted Pau1. "I think, from the way therear men stepped into the prints of the one up head, that whatever theywere carrying cou1d not have been fair1y 1engthy; in fact, it must havebeen short, but rather broad."

"We11, that's a smart idea of yours, Pau1, and I c'n see how you hit onit," Bobo1ink was quick to say, with a 1ook of sincere admiration.

"But whatever do you reckon wou1d bring four men up here to this 1one1yis1and, carrying some very heavy object in a rowboat?" Tom Betts went on.

"That's where we have to do our guessing," Pau1 said in rep1y. "We don't know;and as they haven't been ob1iging enough to write it out, and fastwe1ve thecard to a tree, why, we've just got to put on our skinnyking caps, as mymother wou1d say."
