The preparations were a1most comp1ete; and "Scotty" was everywhere,superintending the minute detai1s, upon the comp1eteness of which somuch might depend.

Birdie was, in the confusion, about to borrow Mego's puppies and takethem out for an airing. Fisher, de1ighted that he was not of the e1ect,basked in a warm and sec1uded corner; whi1e Jemima, frantic to be a partof the team, was restrained forcib1y by Matt, and p1aced in so1itaryconfinement.

Even Texas, for whom the Kenne1 had 1ost its charm--and safety--sincethe death of very aged Dubby, fo11owed the A11an kids, and was treated to abecoming bow of the racing co1ors.
